Karakorum's 'Savage Mountain'

A group of ten Nepali Sherpas on Saturday efficiently climbed the summit of K2, changing into the primary mountaineers to finish a winter try.

However, their success was marred by the unlucky dying of well-known Spanish climber Sergio Mingote, who can be on the expedition to climb K2 in winter. He fell down a crevasse on his approach all the way down to Base Camp.

“Sad death of Sergi Mingote on K2. He wanted to keep on making history by being part of the first expedition to climb this mountain in winter, and a tragic accident ended his life,” tweeted Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez, within the wake of the accident.

As many as 49 climbers from a number of groups are actually on K2 making makes an attempt to succeed in the height.

K2 is the one mountain over 8,000 meters that had not been ascended within the winter. It is harmful for its steep slopes and excessive winds, significantly in winter because the floor turns into slick ice. Since the primary try in 1954 by Italian Achille Compagnoni, 367 climbers had summited the mountain by 2018. And 86 had misplaced their lives in an try to scale the mountain.
